About Maternity Shoot

I have been pregnant twice so far and I can say based on my experience it was the best time of my life. It’s hard to put into words how it feels to grow a little person all by yourself and carry it around all day, every day for 9 months. The feeling when they give you a little (or big) nudge to say “Hey mum I am here, and I love YOU!”. To watch your husband/partner become a father a day at a time. It truly is a blessing for us women. I’m not saying it’s easy, it’s the hardest thing our body and soul will endure but truly amazing at the same time.

Thank you for allowing me to play but a small part in that journey and capture some of that magic in images that you can enjoy forever.

My maternity sessions are simple, calm and fun.

You can decide if you want a studio session with black and white backdrops or an outdoor session.

Some of general questions I have been asked in regards to Maternity shoots are:

When do I need to book?

I suggest you book as soon as you find out you are pregnant. I take maternity images at around 34 weeks whilst you still have some energy and are not too sore to do a few poses

What do I need to bring?

I always ask you to bring a pair of jeans that you can leave unbuttoned to show off your growing bump. In addition to this, a plain white and black t-shirt or singlet make for some simple and beautiful photos.

If you have requested an outdoor session, then a nice light coloured dress.

If you have any special requests or particular photos that you’d like to replicate, let me know before your session so that we can talk about anything extra to bring along.

Don’t stress too much if you’re stuck on what to bring, I have an ever expanding set of props  in the studio that you’re more than welcome to use.

How long does the session take?

The session time will vary, but generally allow for an hour. It could go on for longer as I have been known to talk and talk and talk about the new baby and all the fun coming your way.

Can I tell you what kind of images I want?

Yes of course! Everyone’s tastes differ. I always suggest to my expecting mums and dads to go through my portfolio and email me the the styles they like. This allows me to get an understanding of what you’re looking to get out of the shoot and prepare accordingly.

If you’ve seen something you like and it’s not in my portfolio then that’s ok too. Send through some examples and I will try my hardest to recreate it for you.

Please give me plenty of notice to get any props I may need to capture your preferred style.

Can my husband/partner be in the pictures?

Yes, they sure can. Please, let me know prior to the session how many people will be coming. As with most things in life, preparation is key for a great family shoot. For best results, you both should be wearing a pair of jeans and have a plain white and black t-shirt handy.

What do I get?

After the session, I will select the top 7-12 images of the day and edit them all in photoshop. Some of the images will be edited in black and white as well as colour – I get asked a lot if you can just get the colour ones and print it in black and white. The answer is yes, however, colour photos that are just printed in black and white will never look the same as a photo that has been specifically edited in black and white.
Once the selection of images has been edited, they will be uploaded onto your own personal password protected gallery on my site for you to view and choose your photos.

When do I get the images?

You should generally expect to get your photos in 3-4 weeks. Sometimes I get through them a bit quicker and sometimes it takes a little longer.

What if I want prints?

I can order prints for you and I can provide you with a price list upon request.

All of my images get printed on quality paper at a Pro Lab that I work with regularly. My computer monitor is set up in a carefully controlled environment so that the ambient light does not interfere with what I’m looking at on the screen and my monitor is carefully calibrated to the D65 International standard – as you can see, I take this stuff seriously 🙂

What if I want frames or photobooks?

I also can provide you with prices for frames and photobooks. We can discuss what you’re after once you come to the studio for your session.

How do I make payment?

I always request a non-refundable booking fee to be transferred to lock in your session. Once you come for your session I require the remainder of your package payment to be made in full.

I may use one or two of your images for promotional material, for example viewing albums, her website or business card. Let me  know if you would prefer her not to and I will be happy to keep your images out of them. 🙂

If you have any other questions that are not listed above please don’t hesitate to contact me.
